On Apr. 12, 1632, Anthony deposed in a tithe case that he was "of Fordington, Dorset, yeoman, where he had lived from infancy, born there, aged 40 or thereabouts." Departed Weymouth, England  aboard the 'Recovery of London' on March 31, 1633/4, Gabriel CORNISH, master. Ambushed and killed with company by Canonchet at Attleboro Gore during King Philip's war. Ames, Eames, Holbrook, Lapham, Phillips, Pierce, Sprague, Wilder

First Generation

1. ThomasA Eames(1) (#5728) was born in Fordington, Dorsetshire, England. Thomas was buried June 25, 1618 in Fordington, Dorsetshire, England.(2)

He married Millicent (Eames) in probably, St.George, Dorsetshire, England. (Millicent (Eames) is #5729.) Millicent was born circa 1552 in Dorset, England. Millicent died May 1614 in Fordingham, Dorset, England, at 61 years of age.

Thomas is the only man of the Eames family mentioned in those early records of Fordington that have been examined. The Bishops Transcript of the Parish Records tantalizes the researcher with the note that in 1588 "Jone Emes widow an old woman was buried ye 17th day of June." It's possible that other branches of the Eames family were in the town of Dorchester, which is nearly surrounded by the parish of Fordington, or that some Eames marriages took place there, but the early registers of Dorchester have not been preserved. The occupation of Thomas hasn't been discovered, nor his location within the large area of the parish. Christening records in the Bishops Transcript all identify sons and daughters of Thomas Eames; no mention of a wife named Millicent was observed.

Thomas Eames and Millicent (Eames) had the following children:

He was a churchwarden in the parish of Fordington, and signed the Bishops Transcripts in that office in 1623 and 1627. Having been an officer of his church, his motivation for emigration may have been more capitalist than religious. Antony Eames is listed among the passengers of the ship "Recovery of London", Gabriel Cornish, master, which sailed from the port of Weymouth to New England on 16 Mar. 1633. The Port Book, held in the P.R.O. of London, says of the passengers, "All planters & have carried with them diverse sorts of household stuff, apparell & other provisions for the necessary use of themselves, their wives, children and servants ..."

Anthony Eames and Margery Pierce had the following children:

It has been averred that she may have been the wife of William Ford. She has also been named as the wife of Thomas Wilder. No document has come forth to support either contention.

She was christened December 5, 1630 in Fordington, Dorsetshire, England.(12)

In Transcript #5467 of 13 Aug 1902, J.B.P. says Mark's will names her as executor; administration papers show she died a few days before his decease.

Lt. Mark Eames wrote his will.(14)

He is presumed to have been "the child that my wife now ..." mentioned in the will of his father. Edward was the son of Thomas Wilder and Martha Keene.

Edward died October 28, 1690 in probably, Hingham, MA, at 71 years of age. Mr. George Lincoln says he was "stricken suddenly with malignant fever."

Mr. George Lincoln wrote that Edward received a grant of land in Hingham "containing ten acres, the 8th of Oct. 1637, 'in a place as convenient as can be discovered.' He subsequently received other grants from the town, including a tract situated next to that given to his mother, the widow Martha Wilder, in 1638, which was located at or near the junction of Main and Pleasant Sts., and inc. the est. now" (1893) "owned by heirs of Fearing Loring, deceased. He also owned all the land between Tower's Bridge and Wilder's Bridge ..."(24)

Rev. Moses Wilder wrote that he had been "associated with his mother in business relations until her death in 1652." Rev. Wilder notes that he was made a freeman in 1645, and suggests his birth year was 1624, based on the presumed age of twenty one then.

16 May 1664 he sold to John Tower 5 acres given by the town "unto Martha Wilder, my mother" in Hingham, New Plymouth Colony.(25)

Traditions of the family of Edward Wilder are found in a letter written by his great grandson, Edwin Wilder of Hingham, which Rev. Wilder quoted in his book. Edwin opined that all of the Wilders in Hingham, and in the state of Massachusetts, descended from Edward, except for those of a family in Lancaster (descendants of Thomas), "and we do not know of any relationship between us and them."(26)

She was christened June 13, 1624 in Fordington, Dorsetshire, England.(27)
