Gray, Mary TurnerJune 4, 1784 - July 22, 1818(husband of William Lee Gray)(daughter of Simon Turner of Indian Woods) Gray, PenelopeAug 2, 1780 -Dec 15, 1858The best record of a good woman's life is written in heaven. It is but poor satisfaction to write the eulogy of the dead: yet is the only tribute which death leaves to surviving friends whereby to express their reverence and to gratify their cherished memories. In her death the Church is bereaved of the example of a devout Christian, society is deprived of a courteous gentlewoman and her family and friends are saddened by the death of the last one of all her brothers and sisters. On her right is buried the body of her brother Stevens Gray. Consigned by death to shades of night, she died concealed from mortal sight, till Jesus from the lofty skies, shall bid her slumbering dust arise. Why would her mourning friends complain, their loss is her enternal gain; from life's tempestuous scenes at rest, with joys unnumberd she is blessed; we would not murmur but prepare, to meet our God, and meet her there; We may with her through sovereign grace, in Glory see Immanuel's face. McKenzie, William MJan 11, 1754 - Sept 27, 1810In him were blended the mildest manners with the most infexible honor and (inquiry?). He was kind and indugent to his family, affectionate to his relationsand benevolent to all mankind. It may be with the strictest truth said beneath this marble rest the remains of one who when alive possessed every virtue that constituted the character of an amiable and good man. Born in Edenton, February 11, 1789. Died in Windsor, October 31, 1865 Blessed are the dead who are in the Lord for they rest from their labors. Pugh, Frances A.G. [Ann Gray]April 30, 1810 - March 19, 1860"And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, write, blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth; Yea, saith the spirit, that they may rest from their labors and their works fo follow them. Revelation XIV - 12Sacred to the memory of Frances A.G. Pugh, wife of Thomas J. Pugh and daughter of William Lee Gray and Mary Turner Gray. She lived greatly beloved and died as much lamented in whose bosom a selfish thought never entered who never balanced between duty and inclination whose whole life emboidied Christianity--for in early life she devoted herself to the love and service of God, her Saviour and by the aid of the Holy Spirit was enabled to pursue a conscientious and consistant course. And from a life rich in good works and good examples and all loveliness of character sustained with Christian fortitude and resignation, she passed happily to her rest leaving us the blessed assurance of her abundant entrance into the joy of her Lord. "Oh she was all that is brightest, best; So pure in heart, so rich in mind' Of every social worth possessed; By every Christian grace refined; Faultless as near as mortal could; She filled her part below and passed where only such may go. Pugh, William GrayDec 20, 1834 - July 26, 1855"Let me die the death of the righteous and my last end be like his" Numbers Chap XXIII. verse 10. In memory of and in Justice to his many virtues, this stone iss erected to mark the place where is buried William Gray Pugh, the son of Thomas J. and Fracnes A.G. Pugh. Died Thursday, July 26, A.D. 1855, aged 20 years 7 months & 6 days. He was beloved for his generous demeanor and for many qualities of social and intellectual intercourse which endear man to man, and make us mourn when a noble soul departs from among us. Those who knew him best feel that the example and memories he has left behind are an inestimable treasure. "Calm on the bosom of thy God. Sweet Spirit rest thee now". Roulhac, Frances Lee
