1716   29 June John Burns, Jacobite prisoner, transported to Va. On ship Elizabeth and  Anne,  Ex. Liverpool.  To  South Carolina.

 

1720   John Burns born. Approx. From the North Carolina Spectator and Western Advertiser issue   May 14, 1830; " Died in Buncombe County, John Burns, February last, 109 or 110 years old, a native of Ireland ".

 

1728 Bertie Co. deed; Jeremiah Barns of Perquimans precinct to Joseph,  James, and   Jacob Barns 150 acres "for the love, goodwill, and  affection which I have   unto my  brothers". adjacent to Joseph Barns,  Jacob Barns,  Charles Jones, Williams,  Edw. Howard, James Barns, on  Horse Swamp and "Chin-O-Pine" Ridge adjacent  Jacob   Lewis. Witness  Robert Forster, John Barns.

1745 Andrew and John Burns appear in Bertie Co. records.

 

1748   Indenture made the 30th day of January, 1748, between William Barnes of Isle of  Wight and Burrel Brown, for  30 pounds, conveying 50 acres on South side of Maherrin River, beginning at a live Oak near a meadow side a line tree of Elizabeth Urvin land. . .  Witnesses were Timothy Rives,  John  Peebles, and Matthew  Williams

           Marshal.  Proved in Court on June 27, 1749.  Deed Book 3, page 604.

1762            William  Burns of Province Of North Carolina sells to Joseph Fitzpatrick of County of   Albemarle, Parish of St. Anne, for 40 pounds, 180 acres of land in County of Albemarle   on  head of Ivy Creek.

 

1763            John Burns born 1763 in Amelia Co. Va. Fought at Kings Mountain battle.  In 1832  lived in  Laurens district,  S. C. Died before July 1852.  Had  son Christopher, who wed Margaret  Gordon in Rutherford Co. 1809.

1765 Charles Barnes lived on Broad River may have had a daughter Susanna who married

          Samuel   C.  French in Stewart Co. Tenn.

1772 John Burns born, died 25 Feb 1847 aged 75 years. Buried in Old Union cemetery, York County,  South Carolina which at the time was probably part of North Carolina.

1774 Levi Burns ( I ) born in North Carolina.

 

1765-1784 Benjamin Burns born. ( A Benjamin Burns was born in Rutherford Co. in 1780, wed Susanna Smith in  1803 in Rutherford Co. Moved to Alabama about 1825. Both Benjamin and  Susannas’ fathers  supposedly  came from Scotland.   Susanna the daughter of James Smith, who  first settled in S. C. where Susanna was born, later moved to Mississippi  where he died.  Benjamin died in 1859 in Estaboga, Alabama.

Inventory Aug. 17, 1790 by Luke Collins. Division of estate May 18,1791, with equal money paid to John Burn, James Burn, Elizabeth Howe and Thomas Howe. Petition (Apr. 24, 1817) by Sidney Burn, stating Alexander Howe died leaving certain property to his widow Mary Howe for her lifetime and the remainder of his property to his children John, Thomas, Elizabeth, Sarah and Sidney Howe. The widow Mary Howe died testate in 1814 with William Sutton as her exr., but he died before he could divide her estate. Administration on her estate was then granted to Edmond Fleetwood. The said John Howe (son of Alexander) died intestate and without issue, and administration on his estate was grtd. to John Peck. The said Elizabeth Howe (daughter of Alexander) married George McKenzie, who went "beyond the seas" and "is supposed to be dead" and left Moses Gillam as her (?) admr. Thomas Howe (son of Alexander) died leaving his widow Elizabeth Howe as his admrx., and she married secondly to William Sutton. The only child of Thomas Howe was Mary Howe. Sarah Howe (daughter of Alexander) married first James Burn and second Jeremiah Devan.

Levi was a son of Hardiman DUNNING and his wife Winifred SHOLAR, son of Shadrack DUNNING and his wife Mary BARNES, daughter of John BARNES Jr. Hardiman DUNNING, Shadrack DUNNING, William W. CARNEY and Cader BARNES, brother of Mary, were in the 1803 tax book of Bertie Co. In 1805, all were in the tax book of Christian Co., KY.

1817 John Burns wed Diede Smart, Levi Burns and Thomas Smart bondsmen.  ( Diede the daughter of  Joseph  Smart Sr. and   Elizabeth White. Johns’ daughter Elizabeth  b. 1822 wed  Jesse Rogers in 1843, C. A. Blanton wit. I show Diede d. 1849 ). Levi ( I )'s son b. 1790 - 1800. I think this John is a brother of  Levi (I).
